The LAKE HOUSE or the MAIL BOX?

In this movie, I am not sure which is more inspiring: The lake house or the mail box? I think I know the answer: It's myktheone. That's where I got the idea of watching this film. It's a sad story that can melt one's heart. Don't ask me why. pix from www.wikipedia.org .

WHAT KEEPS ME GOING DESPITE STRESS IN THE WORKPLACE

Proximity of school . I get to see my family right after work because the place where I live is just few steps away from school. My students . They make me feel fulfilled by giving me a dose of my daily challenge every day. My colleagues . They sometimes amaze me with the kind of support they can give to me although I am now in a separate office. Myktheone. He challenges me with the sense of responsibility that he has. I get the feeling that if he can make sacrifices for his classmates, then, why can’t I do it for my students? And because of that, I feel like I want to help him reach his full potential. Resigning from my post won’t be an option until I see him (and all the students like him) graduate with honors. That, I promised to myself. I still enjoy teaching . I got used to the mental and physical demands of teaching. My blog. Without this blog, there is no other outlet for my sentiments. In the first place, writing is my way of relaxing. I do blog because I get to relax my m...

WORK OVERLOAD

I just took a self-assessment test on work overload. And the result says that my work overload status is CRITICAL. The interpretation given was “if work overload cannot be substantially reduced within the next few months, immediately search for another position.” No wonder, I thought of resigning from my position several times. Now, I am sure of it. I am overloaded with work. And thanks to the book titled WORK OVERLOAD! REDESIGNING JOBS TO MINIMIZE STRESS AND BURNOUT by Frank M. Gryna. The book, which I incidentally found at the NEW ACQUISITION section of the main library, made me realize the reasons for the stress I feel at work and how it can be minimized (take note of the word minimize because stress at work is really impossible to eliminate). Gryna, the author of the book, emphasized that “we do not have to accept work overload as inevitable. You may call it a “challenge” or call it “an opportunity.” However, Gryna was also right in saying that “work overload is a problem a...

Ako ba si superwoman?

Ako ba si superwoman? Kung ako nga si Superwoman, bakit walang nakakaalam? Bakit walang nakakaramdam? Kulang and bente-kuwatro oras sa akin.

Nostalgia

I proctored midterm exam yesterday and two of the classes I proctored were BS Nursing classes. While doing my job as a proctor, I had several thoughts in my mind. First, I don't miss teaching English to Nursing students. The Nursing classes here are crowded. Each class has 50 students. I was just lucky to have survived in my writing classes for Nursing students. The truth is that I usually end the sem without even being able to label all faces in class with their names. And I have to admit that I only noticed the extremes in class with 50 students. I easily notice the best and the delinquent ones. The average students have never got any chance of being noticed. I also get to notice the best and the worst writers in class. But I remember, when I handled Speech classes for Nursing, I had one section that made me recognize ALL students in class because most, if not all, of them are great speakers! I think that was BSN 2-21 then. Now, they are already junior students and be...

First communion

Today is my daughter's FIRST COMMUNION held at her school -- AUF-IS. I just realized one thing during the ceremony: my daughter was so eager to partake of the "body of Christ." The priest, Fr. Tok, said that the parents should "keep the fire burning." It means that parents should nurture that eagerness, instead of killing it so that the child would never forget the real meaning of communion during mass. And so that the child would make it a habit to go to mass to receive the body of Christ. Well, it's been months since we last attended mass. I lost interest in bringing my kids in the church when a nun from this school said in one of our department meetings that kids are "not supposed to be brought to church." Dapat daw iwan na lang sa bahay ang kids because they don't even understand what the people are doing in the church. What kind of nun would say that? Actually, it used to be a Sunday ritual for our family to attend mass first before stroll...

Charles as Spider-man Jr. :-)

The most inspiring SONG LYRICS I've ever heard is from VIRNIEL's theme song :-)

INTRO: i may have run out of songs to sing i may have run out of words to say but all that i want you to know is what i feel for you: i love you as endless as forever our love will stay together you're all i need to be with forevermore there are times when i just want to look at your face with the stars in the night there are times when i just want to feel your embrace in the cold night i just cant believe that you are mine now chorus: you were just a dream that i once knew i never thought i would be right for you i just cant compare you with anything in this world you're all i need to be with forevermore all those years ive longed to hold you in my arms i've been dreaming of you every night, i've been watching all the stars that fall down wishing you would be mine i just cant believe that you are mine now chorus time and again there are these changes that we cannot end as sure as time keeps going on and on my love for you will be forevermore wishing you would be mine i...

Happy 8th anniversary to VIRNIEL

Yap, yap, yap! VIRNIEL stands for Vir ginia and Da niel. And today is our 8th anniversary as husband & wife! Maybe it's time for a rewind: Sept. 25, 1994 : Dan became my boyfriend (I was only 16 years old (turning 17) and he was 18 then). He's been my bf for four years although ours was more of a long-distance relationship. I was studying in Baguio and he was studying in Manila. But hey! It must be true that "absence makes the heart grow fonder." Thanks to JRS Express and LBC -- they bridged the distance between us. And of course, thanks to the phone booth at Baguio Convention Center. During those times that cell phones were not yet commonly used, I kept a lot of coins and used them for calling thru the public phone . Our relationship led to marriage despite distance. Well, it was all because we trusted each other and we treasured every moment we spent together as a couple. Nov. 26, 1998 : The marriage took place. I think this is the most important part of my li...

Snail Mail

I don't understand why I haven't received the mail I have been waiting for since last week. The mail will just come from the neighbor province -- Tarlac -- but it hasn't reached me till now. Waiting just makes me sick and tired of the mailing system here in the Philippines. I've confirmed from the Internet that the letter (document) I am waiting for has been processed. But I was advised by a colleague to wait for two to four weeks. S H I T ! Grabe na 'to.
