a scary movie that talks about LIFE's BEAUTY

I failed to sleep well last night. I actually slept at my mom's house in Balibago. I was with Charles and Steffi. I could not figure out why exactly I had difficulty falling asleep. Perhaps, it's because I was mentally busy analyzing what may be in the head of my better-half. Something just went wrong somewhere. I wouldn't discuss it here. Or maybe, I was restless in bed last night because whenever I close my eyes, I always see images from the movie which I watched before going to bed. We watched SAW on cable. Okay. Maybe that was it -- that SAW movie. It was a scary film, a psychological thriller. But its main theme is worth thinking about: PEOPLE WHO HAVE LIVES ARE NOT GRATEFUL THEY ARE STILL ALIVE! The suspect who "played games" with people asked one of the victims: HOW MUCH BLOOD ARE YOU WILLING TO SHED IN ORDER TO SAVE YOUR LIFE? The victims w ere placed in a difficult situation. Are they going to kill another person just to save their own lives? The main cha

3 movies + 1 mystery novel = DEATH

The week-long vacation is over. Now, what? Of course, I need to get back to work— get back to reality. For a week, I was able to immerse myself into fiction, by watching and reading invented stories and imaginary tales. I watched FINAL DESTINA TION 3, WHEN A STRANGER CALLS , and HOUSE OF 9 . I also have finished another Mary Higgins Clark’s suspense novel titled ON THE STREET WHERE YOU LIVE. Those four fictional items were all about the s ame thing: DEATH . This is one word that I hate to talk about but I can’t avoid this theme whenever I read or watch fictional stu ff. FINAL DESTINATION 3 is just like the first and second parts. Well, a female character can predict the future. Actually, I don’t know if you can call that prediction. She felt what was going to happen, and she saw the m in her mind. The problem in the plot, I think, is that she could only predict death and nothing else. Worse, it seems like all her friends died of accident, which she was able to predict bu

JOB HUNTING BLUES

MC student #1 applied for a job at an airline company. The screening committee from the prospect company told her, "maputi ang kailangan namin dito." So, what else will my student say? Nothing. She happened to have a brown (morena) complexion. MC student #2 applied for a job at another airline company. She wrote in her resume that she stands 5'6". Then when she was called for an interview, she was asked to remove her high-heeled shoes and have height measurement right in front of the hiring committee. They found out that she only stands 5'5". She was immediately told to leave as they gave her resume back. Grrr! MC student #3 went to Ortigas for job hunting. She found a bank that has a prestigious name -- hoping it also offers good pay. She tried her luck there. She almost got hired but when she found out that the company is giving her only P8,000 to P10,000 as starting pay, which is not about to increase in three years, she backed out. Her parents told her s

Steffi started attending a summer acting workshop

Seems like STEFFI is going to enjoy her summer with a month-long acting workshop at AUF. Mr. Tony Mabesa is the director-general for their play, CATS. pix fr. www.stage-entertainment.de

write, write, write

Lately, I have been thinking of writing a novel. I was able to publish one about 6 years ago. I think I want a new publication on creative writing. Actually, I already have plotted the storyline in my mind. But the hardest part is to put them on paper. The truth is, it was my mom (who else?) who made me inspired (again) to write a novel. I read one of her latest novels last week and I thought I could still write my own. After all, this is what I really want to do --w r i t i n g. Although I am in a teaching profession now, I make sure that I do write what I want to write once in a while. I do keep my personal journal in my own PC, I blog (obviously), I conduct and write researches even without school funding, and I write short articles for publication. Plus, I do take time in writing my graduate school papers. Kaya lang, creative writing is something I really miss doing. Kahit siguro hindi agad mabayaran ng publisher, okey lang. Ang importante, I get to do what my heart wants me to do.

the best thing to do this summer break is to SLEEP with my lovely kids!

Hula

After receiving several invitations from my students, I was finally convinced to go. I went to a strange place yesterday with my mom. You won't believe it but a stranger told me things I couldn't believe she would say. 1. she knew that I have a daughter. 2. sabi niya, mautak (intelligent) daw ang anak kong babae at mataas ang pangarap. 3. sabi niya, may balat (birthmark) daw ang anak kong lalaki -- which is true. take note, i did not tell her i have a son. she just knew it. i didn't know how. 4. match daw kami ng asawa ko -- of course, otherwise, we won't make it as husband and wife for almost 8 years now 5. she said one of people I know would soon get married. sa side daw ng husband ko ang ikakasal soon. (i don't know if that would be true) 6. she said my luck is my children. 7. she claimed that our plan of acquiring house and lot would soon come true. (sana!) 8. she also said gusto daw ng husband ko paglapitin uli mga magulang ko ( i absolutely don&#

I've always been a proud MoM

My daughter finished her first year in grade school. Steffi was awarded a silver medal for earning second honor in class. Actually, from the first to the third quarter, Steffi was on the third place. But I talked to Stef and told her I would be happier if she, at least, would make it to the second spot. And so she did :-). Steffi got a average of 93.73% and she joined several extra-curricular activities so she made it to the second place. Ang computation kasi, 70 % from their academic standing, then 30% from extra-curricular activities.

BAKASYON NA

Thank God, it's time for a week-long vacation! For one week, there would be no AUF to think about, no students to deal with, no academic books to read, no paper works to accomplish. My plan next week: read another book by Mary Higgins Clark -- In the Street Where you Live spend time with my kids -- swimming, playing PC games, visiting their Lolo and Lola in the province teach my son how to read and write eat sleep clean the house

What you say is a reflection of your philosophy in life

I had attended several ceremonies at AUF. I had witnessed a lot of speakers delivering their messages at AUF. But the latest speaker I heard at AUF stage has a different tone. This speaker didn't talk about himself or his achievements on stage. He was the only speaker who started his speech by saying "I was impressed with the choir which is composed of the young people -- the youth." Ah... finally, a guest had expressed admiration for the dedicated CONCERT CHORUS members at AUF. Secondly, this speaker was the only one who proudly introduced his wife saying that she is his wife of 41 years. He asked his wife to stand to be recognized as he kept saying that he couldn't have done what he had without his wife. The speaker actually was BRIG OWENS , a thirteen-year National Footbal League veteran and a seven-year player representative and a defensive captain for the Washington Redskins. He is the founder and chairman of Super Leaders, Inc . Owens delivered a short s peech a
