Keeping my sanity while keeping four different jobs

Opportunities don't always knock on the door so I need to grab them... So here I am, just like what I did last academic year, keeping four jobs while preserving my sanity :-). There's just something different this time. Job number 1: Faculty at the Dept. of English & Comm. teaching six different subjects to over 50 students for each section. On MWF, I come to school at 9 am and leave at 7 pm. On TTh, I come at 9 am and swipe out at 5 pm. Job number 2: Vice-chair of the Dept. of English & Communication. As such, I am in-charge of all student affairs and program development for AB Communication program. To date, I have almost 250 Comm. students to guide and monitor. Job number 3: Freelance writer on three online writing sites but active only on one online research service. I was accepted in 3 companies online but I can only maintain one of them. It's because the papers to be written in the two are not in line with my field of knowledge. But I'...

My load in school for the 1st semester of AY 2008 to 2009

MWF 11 -12 nn Practicum 01 2-3 pm Comm. 5 (Newswriting) 5-6 pm English 4 (Speech & Oral Communication) TTh 10-11:30 am BC 100 (Radio & TV Standards and Principles) 12:30-2 pm Comm. 101 (Introduction to Communication Theories) 2-3:30 pm Comm. 10a (Eectronic Newsroom 1) * I guess I'm the only one in the college with six different preparations. Most teachers teach only one or two subjects to different sections. In my case, I've got five major subjects with over 50 students, and one GE subject with low-level students (ha ha). I'm not really sure how I will survive the semester with so many different preps.

Here's the latest comment from one of my clients:

Good communication, timely revision, and effective work overall. Not only pretty-looking, but also adequate in content. Im pleased to let you know that this assignment received a grade of 85% from the instructor of this course whos confessed that she sees herself as a tough marker. Under these circumstances, I might be seriously interested in using this writers help for my upcoming Marketing project as well, which will be evaluated by the very same `tough` professor.

Steffi : Third Honor in Grade 3

Steffi made it to the top 3 this academic year (2007-2008) in Grade 3. Aside from medal and certificate, she also got a 400-peso prize :-) Wow, what else can I ask for if both my son and daughter are consistent honor students? I just hope that the medals and certificates they get will make them better citizens of this country...

Charles finished Preparatory level with honors

Another school year is about to begin in June 10. I think I have to post my kids' achievement last sem... Charles got the third highest honor among the Prep students in their school. This year, he's going to be in Grade one. White rose for me?

Faculty training turned sour

I participated in a five-day BPAP-ADEPT (Advanced English Proficiency Training) FACULTY-TRAINER WORKSHOP ON POWER METHODS from May 26 to 30. It was a workshop participated in by teachers of English from the different universities in the country. The participating schools included FEU (the host university), FEU-East Asia College, CEU Manila, Makati, and Malolos, PWU, Lyceum Cavite, NCBA, San Beda College, UE Caloocan and Recto, and University of Cebu. The workshop was sponsored by the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP) and the Asia Pacific Center (APC). The trainers were from APC. The workshop's goal is simple, though complicated: TO BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN THE INDUSTRY AND THE ACADEME. Since the event was sponsored by BPAP, definitely, they were the ones who set the goals and the agenda. When the president of BPAP and the Senior Marketing Executive (I forgot her name, sorry) spoke about the status of the BPO industry, I was quickly convinced that, ind...

My Thoughts on being a Ghost Writer

I have been a ghost writer for over a month now and I already completed 14 ordered papers for the clients. Being a ghost writer on this context means that I write academic essays or research papers for customers who buy term papers from a paper mill online. I actually don't like the idea of writing for students who cheat on their professors by submitting papers that they claim to have been written themselves. Of course, what they do is a clear manifestation of plagiarism. Knowing myself, I hate students and even teachers who plagiarize. In fact, I'm currently planning to have an Plagiarism Awareness Month in this university. I want all the students and teachers to learn how not to plagiarize. But writing for those students gives me several thoughts that are worth pondering on, since I am also in the academe. First, I wonder if their teachers are aware of what they do. Some clients order several papers throughout a semester. There are clients who, after getting the paper I'...

I miss Myktheone

Hi Ma'am! How are you? It's been quite a while. I don't have time to sit down and blog. Been very busy. I've been busy with my BIR and SSS registration. I miss you and I miss writing. I don't want to be so preoccupied because I miss the chance to write. Ok naman po ang work condition, I gained friends, and I enjoy what I do. Kaya lang ngayon, my work mates and I feel that there are a lot of issues in the company like absurd rules, bosses, etc. How's AUF? I'm afraid that I won't have the time to visit you there. Kay-ann and Spring will also work in Makati. We're planning to stay in one place. Pero I'll still be considering your suggestion. I won't sign the contract. I'll send you the pix when I got all pix from my classmates. Thanks po Ma'am, I'll take that. Take care din!

A writer reborn

I earned $124 for not sleeping for two nights. Not bad, right? But I miss sleeping. I haven't slept for two consecutive nights. I finished two ordered papers. Yeah, I call them ordered papers. I'm writing part-time for an online freelance writing company. I started last March and successfully delivered the first ordered paper on March 14. Actually, I already forgot that I signed up for a freelance writing company online. I wasn't serious about it. I just wanted to see what was going to happen. I didn't expect to receive a confirmation that I was accepted as one of their freelance writers. Anyway, I think I am enjoying this kind of part-time job. First, I get paid per page -- in US dollars . The compensation per page depends on the immediacy and complexity of the paper. I had orders which were $ 12 per page. Some offered only $7 per page. There are orders offering only $3 but I don't get them. I think that's too cheap considering that the amount of time I spend ...

Reflections

I am currently writing a paper on communication in leadership. While reading the materials and modules, I started making reflections and I realized that THERE IS NOTHING MORE TROUBLESOME than having a boss who frequently says, "If you don't like the rules, maluwang ang pinto. Lumabas kayo." He even made it a joke during a general meeting with all the employees and faculty and said: Yung mga gustong umalis ng school na to, bukas ang pinto. Ipahahatid ko pa kayo sa brass band palabas ng gate ng school kung gusto nyo. These words from him only imply that he doesn't value the employees and the faculty. He has no desire to keep the best and the most competitive. It seems like it won't really matter if we leave the school. In short, we're nothing. What kind of leader would say those kinds of words to his employees and faculty? Teachers are professionals and supposedly competitive so how could he insult teachers that way? Sometimes, I think that the saddest ...

UPDATES

I haven't blogged for quite a while but it doesn't mean I ran out of things to blog about. Here are some updates. 1. My sister went to the UK with her husband last April 11. We miss each other but thanks to YM and blogs -- we get to update each other of what's going on. Plus, with the web cam and YM, we get to see her almost every day. She's adjusting to temperature because when she left the Phils., the temp was around 38 C compared with the temp in UK right now which is 2 degrees Celsius. 2. It's summer break. I only have 7 students of Speech and Oral Communication . I'm currently focusing on my researches and on other stuff. This week will be the graduation ceremony of graduating students from the CAS. This, perhaps, would be the last time that I would see Myk and his batchmates. :-( 3. I started writing (part time) for an online company . I had my first paper delivered to the customer on March 14. I got good feedback and bonus (in dollars)...

Special messages from my graduating students

A Mentor, a Friend, an Icon: The ABMC 4 Response She is the icon of the Mass Communication department, an exceptional Communication instructor, and a motivator. Without her, students at Angeles University Foundation won’t reach their full potentials. She will always be remembered. We, the entire ABMC 4 Batch 2008, feel blessed and grateful for having Ma'am Virgie as our mentor in college. As we are about to spread our wings and gear up for the next level of our lives, we will always call to mind what she has taught us. We don't actually fear what the bigger world has in store for us because we trust that we are equipped with knowledge, skills, and talents which Ma'am Virgie has imparted us over the years. JENNIFER : I thank you mama virgy!!! i'm so speechless.. pero masasabi ko lang i will never forget you!! you change me.... salamat sa mga tinuro mo... wala kang katulad... basta sa lahat ng techers namen kaw ang da best... you will be forever in our hearts.... mwuahhh...

Another Mitch Albom book worth reading

MY MOST TREASURED BATCH

I have just submitted the final grades of my ABMC 4 students. That submission signals the end. The students are graduating on April 24 (exactly ten years after I also finished my Bachelor's degree). Their graduation gives me ambivalent feelings. Of course, I'm so happy for them -- finally they can spread their wings and fly wherever they want their destiny to bring them. However, something inside me tells me that I'm losing a part of me when they leave. This batch of students is, so far, the closest to me. I've been with them in their academic `struggle' in this school. They were my students since they were in their first year. And I think if there is one teacher who knows them a lot, (at least academically) that would be I. The same thing, this batch knows me more than anyone else does in this school. In fact, I'm sure that some of the students in this batch know me more than any of my co-faculty does. What can I say about each of them? MIKE : My first one-on-o...
