Today is my daughter's FIRST COMMUNION held at her school -- AUF-IS. I just realized one thing during the ceremony: my daughter was so eager to partake of the "body of Christ." The priest, Fr. Tok, said that the parents should "keep the fire burning." It means that parents should nurture that eagerness, instead of killing it so that the child would never forget the real meaning of communion during mass. And so that the child would make it a habit to go to mass to receive the body of Christ.
Well, it's been months since we last attended mass. I lost interest in bringing my kids in the church when a nun from this school said in one of our department meetings that kids are "not supposed to be brought to church." Dapat daw iwan na lang sa bahay ang kids because they don't even understand what the people are doing in the church. What kind of nun would say that? Actually, it used to be a Sunday ritual for our family to attend mass first before strolling at the mall. I want my kids to make it a habit to say THANK YOU to Jesus for all the blessings we receive.
Anyway, even if we don't attend mass anymore, I still teach my kids the value of praising and believing in God. Even if my daughter knew that I read Dan Brown's books and she knew what Dan Brown said in THE DA VINCI CODE (She heard my husband and I having a sort of debate on the existence of a real god), I still told her that there is ONE TRUE GOD that created all things. :-)
