I'm republishing an article inspired by MITCH ALBOM's novels and a sad incident -- this was published on my first blog on Nov. 7, 2005
A MIXTURE OF FACT & FICTION IN REAL LIFE
The last two books I have read:
TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE
and
FIVE PEOPLE YOU MEET IN HEAVEN
(both were written by Mitch Albom)
The latest news I have heard:
SIR WILSON DG SOLIS PASSED AWAY AT 10:30 A.M. TODAY --November 2, 2005
Sir Wilson was my professor in graduate school and my thesis adviser. He was the only person in AUF who sincerely trusted me and my abilities as a graduate student. He was the one who, to my surprise, encouraged me to present my thesis in a regional research congress in Bulacan. He kept telling me I can handle all problems that come along. He was the one who had made me realize that LIFE AIN'T FAIR.
TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE highlighted a teacher-student relationship outside the four-cornered classroom. The lessons were about the significant concepts in life: ageing, love, work, community, family, and death. Each page of this book is worth treasuring because it contains valuable insights on what is important and what is not.
THE FIVE PEOPLE YOU MEET IN HEAVEN is also about the most important yet always left unanswered question in people's lives: WHY DO PEOPLE DIE? The novel was remarkable because it captures the author's concept of HEAVEN and the people we may meet in heaven.
MItch Albom mentioned in the novel: LIFE AIN'T FAIR; IF IT WERE, NO GOOD PEOPLE WILL DIE YOUNG.
He was right. Indeed, life has never been fair. Sir Wilson was a good person and he was young -- he was only 43 when he died. I believe he could still do a lot for this country, for this university - AUF.
When I went to his funeral, I was able to talk to his sister who cried while reminiscing the good old times with Sir Wilson. She told me how she missed Sir Wilson's sweet voice reminding her not to worry about her problems. She admitted life won't be the same without Sir Wil who was the one who supported his mom's regular medical consultation and medicines. Life would never be the same with his wife and his 9-year-old daughter.
They just don't know, LIFE WON'T ALSO BE THE SAME WITH ME, now that he passed away.
He was my mentor, my adviser and one of the reasons why I am still in this institution.
I am sure he is in heaven now.
May he be one of the people I will soon meet in heaven.
